Meet Mia
Hi! I’m Mia - a junior in high school who is passionate about neuroscience and loves to be in the kitchen. Growing up, cooking has always been a major facet of my life. Raised in a hectic household of chefs and restaurant managers, I couldn’t wait to get my hands dirty myself. Experimenting in the kitchen not only provides me with a safe haven, but is also my creative outlet. Some of my earliest memories are of standing next to my grandmother as she milled tomatoes in a passata, as all of my cousins and I gathered in anticipation for her famous tomato sauce. I wondered even then why it all felt so good.
That question led me to neuroscience. Why does a familiar smell stop you in your tracks? Why do we crave foods when we are stressed or excited? Why do new foods fill some people with thrill, and some people with dread? The more I learned about the brain, the more I realised that the kitchen had those answers.
This blog is where my two passions meet. Each post will pair a neuroscience concept with a recipe that brings it to life. I believe that the best way to learn is to taste, and hopefully this blog is a little bit of both. The science is real, the recipes are ones that I’ve created, and the writing is all mine.
I’m still learning, both at school and in the kitchen. I hope you’ll learn something here too.
